Energy is currency in anyone’s language.  And no I don’t mean Middle East oil reserves or the latest Aussie wind farm (aka parliament house). I’m talking about personal energy – the kind that keeps your body perky, the under-eye baggage at bay, and your friends jealous.

Keeping on top of everything we need to, want to or must do can take it out of you.  Now apparently banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour, but it’s not the ideal way to stay fit, focused and fabulous.

What to do when you find yourself running on empty? Here are five easy ways to keep those batteries charged.

1. Know when to hit delete. Don’t keep adding things to your day, take time to decide what you can get shed instead.

2. Stay away from psychic vampires. Those people you know who suck all the life and positive energy out of you after just a few minutes in their company.

3. Feel good eating. Stick to fuel that’s fresh, colourful and not packed with carbs and sugar. When you breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dine like a pauper, you’ll sleep better and bounce out of bed next morning.

4. Make time to move. Give computer butt the flick for a while, and get your body out into the fresh air. You fed it, you move it. So stop reading right now and go crank out a quick rock around the block. I’ll wait.

5. Beware the time bandits. Don’t let other people eat up your precious time with their definition of urgent. Learn how to let go and delegate.

If you’re only going to do one thing, be kind to you for a change. Take a break from the energy busters and give the energy boosters a go.

And who knows, you could end up like the energiser bunny. Not cute, pink and fluffy (well, whatever works for you) but someone with boundless energy, a positive attitude and able to just keep on going no matter what life throws at you.
